Democratic Governance is an open access journal, meaning that all its content is freely available to readers and institutions worldwide without subscription or publication charges.
All articles are published online with immediate and permanent access. Readers may read, download, copy, and share the full texts without limitations.
The journal operates under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) licence, which permits users to reuse, adapt, revise or build upon the content, as well as to employ it for commercial purposes. The only requirement is that proper credit is given to the authors and the journal, a link to the DOI and the licence is provided, and any changes are clearly indicated. Users must also avoid implying that the publisher or authors endorse their use of the material.
Copyright remains with the authors, who also keep their scholarly usage rights. Democratic Governance receives the right to publish and distribute the work under open access conditions.
Full texts of all published articles are stored in the Archive, fully in line with the principles of the Budapest Open Access Initiative.
