The article examines the peculiarities of interaction of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (hereinafter - AFU) with territorial defense units (hereinafter - TdU) and volunteer formations of territorial communities (hereinafter - VCTC) in the context of the Russian Federation's (hereinafter - RF's) aggression against Ukraine, and the problems of legislative regulation of such interaction. The imperfection of the legislation on the legal regulation of tCfs and vCfs, in particular, the definition of their status, legal guarantees, logistical and financial support, does not contribute to the effective use of tCf units in combat operations against the Russian Federation. Amendments to the legislation are fragmentary and do not comprehensively address the problem
